Regenerative Medicine in Bourbannais

At Beyer Regenerative Medicine, our regenerative treatment plan involves stem cell therapy. But do you know what stem cell therapy is?

Stem cell therapy involves the process of injecting stem cells into your body to encourage the cells in your body to regenerate, or grow new, healthy cells. The role of these stem cells is to encourage the growth of different cell types, ranging from muscle cells to brain cells.

At Beyer, we use a type of stem cells called MSCs (or mesenchymal stem cells). These MSC’s are found in umbilical cord blood. When we inject these MSC’s into our patients, these stem cells work as messengers that encourage your present, damaged cells to regrow and regenerate.

Why Do We Need Extra Stem Cells?

If our body already has stem cells, it might not make sense why stem cell therapy involves injecting more stem cells into your body. But as your body ages, the number of MSCs present decreases. This is a natural process, but can make it harder for your body to grow or regenerate healthy cells. Since we use MSCs that are taken from umbilical cord blood, these younger stem cells are able to work as messengers that encourage your damaged cells to regenerate.

Additionally, since the MSCs are so young, the body doesn’t recognize these cells as foreign, completely eliminating any risk of the body rejecting or fighting these MSCs. In fact, there are currently no rejections or negative reactions associated with MSCs injections.

We also like to note that all of our MSCs are donated by the birth mother and comply with all FDA and other medical guidelines that pertain to those types of donations.

What Conditions Do MSCs Help With?

As your cells lose their ability to heal, the damaged cells in your body can start to cause pain. But since MSCs are able to work as messengers to help cells regenerate, they can target these damaged cells and help your body heal from a variety of painful conditions, including:

  • Chronic pain
  • Arthritis (i.e. osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis)
  • Knee pain
  • Joint pain
  • Inflammation
  • The effects of aging

Since stem cell therapy involves an injection of these MSCs into your body, it is also a much safer choice than some of the more invasive surgeries that can work to reduce your pain. Stem cell therapy is also a better alternative to pain medications. Different medicines only work to mask the pain at that moment, but don’t provide any long-term solutions for that pain. On the other hand, the goal of stem cell therapy is to use regenerative medicine to encourage the body to heal itself, eliminating the source of the pain instead of just masking the intensity of that pain.

The village of Bourbannais was named as François Bourbonnais who was a fur trapper that worked for the American Fur Company. In the 1820s and 1830s, Bourbannais made a living by trading with the nearby Potawatomi tribe. The village wasn’t incorporated until a referendum in 1875. Now, Bourbannais is home to over 18,000 residents.

There are plenty of outdoor recreational areas and local businesses in Bourbannais to visit, including:

  • Kankakee River State Park and Riding Stables
  • Perry Farm
  • Diamond Point Park and Splash Pad
  • Bourbonnais Township Park District
  • Strickler Planetarium
  • Bourbonnais Grove Historical Society Museum
  • Exploration Station Children’s Museum
  • George Letourneau Home Museum

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do we use HUC stem cells rather than autologous stem cells?
Studies have shown that these cells work better. Our cells in our bodies age as we age and younger cells can be more effective.
Are stem cells safe?
Yes, stem cells are immuno-privileged which means they will not cause an adverse reaction or rejection to the body. There are no known side effects!
Is there any transfer of DNA from the stem cell product into the receiving patient?
No, a process called cell fusion would be required and this process is not observed in multipotent mesenchymal stem cells.
Is donor and host tissue matching required?
Stem cells from another person (allogenic) cells are naive and are not recognized by the host immune system as foreign.
Are there contraindications to regenerative cellular therapy?
Yes, a patient should not have any active form of cancer.
How do stem cells know where to go and what to grow?
When our tissue is damaged it gives off things called Cytokines. Cytokines act like little beacons to attract the stem cells to that tissue. In fact, we have heard of numerous instances when a patient has a Stem Cell procedure done and another area of their body also heals.
What is the difference between Stem Cell Therapy and other treatments such as replacements, joint resurfacing, etc?
The biggest difference is that this therapy can be “curative” in nature. Every other type of drug or treatment is “masking” the symptoms. The most obvious difference is safety of this therapy versus anything else.

  • You are not in a hospital subjected to “super germs”
  • There is no risky surgery being done or anesthesia.
  • There are no six weeks of bed rest or “light duty”.
  • Our procedure takes less than a half hour and is done in our clinic.

Note: It is recommended that you take it easy for a period of time after the procedure.

How long do results last for?
As long as the root cause of your problem is addressed your healing should be long term. Because stem cell therapy is still a fairly new therapy, research shows that results can last up to and beyond five years. There are many variables that determine how long the results of a stem cell injection will last for. Results will also vary from person to person and depend on a variety of factors including, diet, exercise, lifestyle choices, etc…
At what point should a patient explore this option, and when is it too late?
The great news is that our research shows that is never too late. Most chronic pain conditions slowly get worse over time, not better. For this reason, we encourage patients not to continue to suffer and come to receive the therapy to get them out of the suffering and pain. We have helped patients from 18 -102 years old and had the same great outcomes. Age does not seem to matter when it comes to stem cell therapy.
How much does it cost and is it covered by health insurance?
Cost depends on a patient’s specific problem, the number of problems, and the amount of stem cells needed. Unfortunately, insurance does not cover Stem Cell Therapy at this time.
